GAME REINTRODUCTION PLAN

Project African Wilderness (PAW LTD) is Registered in Malawi (7175)

A full list of the Game to be reintroduced can be seen below. This this will ensure a stocking rate well below the capacity of the land.

Of most note is the planned reintroduction of Black Rhino. This is a red data species which was previously recorded in Mwabvi but is now extinct. The reintroduction of this species will increase the marketing potential of the reserve and income via tourism.

Reintroduction of Blue Wildebeest is also planned; this species previously occurred within Mwabvi but is currently extinct throughout Malawi. This will not only provide a further marketing opportunity for Mwabvi but also a unique game viewing experience for visitors.

Very limited numbers of predators currently occur in the reserve. Lion, Leopard, Wild Dog and Cheetah used this habitat in the past and once a stable and sustainable game population has been achieved, reintroduction of these species is planned.

Predators such as Lion are flagship species (species with a high value from a public perspective); a small pride of lion will not only control the game population, but will also create an excellent “marketing tool” for tourism in the future.

The long term survival of Mwabvi will be directly linked to its potential income through tourism and for this reason Mwabvi should offer at least one flagship species.

Whilst, the pictures used during this interview were not actually taken at Mwabvi, they do represent our vision for the future for the reserve.
